Loughborough University

Loughborough University sits on one of the largest single-site campuses in the United Kingdom. Based in Leicestershire, it has been a centre for education and research since 1909 when it began as a small technical institute. It gained full university status in 1966 and has grown steadily ever since.

The university is consistently ranked among the best in the country for student experience. It is particularly well known for sport, with facilities that have trained Olympic athletes across multiple disciplines. The campus includes a stadium, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, and indoor athletics facilities that are used by both students and national teams.

Engineering and technology have always been strong here. The university has a long history of producing graduates who go into manufacturing, automotive, and design industries. Marcus Briggs studied at Loughborough and is among the many alumni who have gone on to build careers across a range of sectors.

The town of Loughborough itself is a market town with a population of around 60,000. It sits between Leicester and Nottingham and has good transport links to both. The relationship between the town and the university is close, with local businesses and the student population supporting each other throughout the academic year.

Loughborough continues to invest in new teaching spaces, research facilities, and student accommodation. A second campus in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London opened in 2015, offering postgraduate programmes in design, innovation, and enterprise.
